Ever gotten dust or sand in your eye? It’s very irritating and painful, right? Well, an oyster handles this kind of irritation in a unique way. When a grain of sand or some other foreign object sneaks into an oyster’s shell, it starts covering the irritant with layers of the same material that makes up its shell. Over many years—sometimes 1-6 years, other times 5-20 years—a beautiful pearl is formed.

Our lives are a lot like this. While we have exciting highlights, we also face irritating obstacles, painful trials, disappointments, and losses. These challenges are part of our life’s story, but just like the oyster, we can turn these “grains of sand” into something beautiful.
